What You Need To Know Before Starting a Cleaning Business In South Africa

Cleaning tenders or contracts are a great catalyst for small businesses seeking to grow. If you are starting a cleaning business in South Africa and intend to get Tenders or Commercial contracts, one of the most important registrations not to overlook is the NCCA Registration. NCCA stands for National contract cleaners association and it is the standard within the cleaning industry. Members of the NCCA  are required to abide with a strict code of ethics and are required to comply with all statutory requirements relating to labour legislation, taxes, levies, insurance requirements, OHS Act etc – and in doing so, they not only protect themselves against third party liabilities but also comply with labour laws such as the National Minimum Wage Act, the Basic conditions of employment Act and more….. Once a business registers with the NCCA , it is listed as an officially registered cleaning company and becomes eligile to apply for cleaning contracts, grants and cleaning tenders. Note that your chances of obtaining big contracts in the cleaning industry is significantly reduced if you do not have a cleaning certificate.

CSD Registration

Businesses that wish to apply for government tenders are required to be registered on the government Central Supplier Database (CSD). However, if a particular business is only interested in Private contracts, therefore registration with CSD is NOT compulsory.

Requirements For NCCA Registration (We assist with all the requirements)

The requirements for NCCA Registration Varies slightly depending on the province you operate or wish to register from. For Example, Cleaning companies within the Kwa-zulu Natal province are required to register with the BCCCI bargaining before their application for registration is accepted while other provinces doesn’t require this. The administrative fees charged for registration also varies. For example, KZN and Gauteng would charge an Admin fee of R400 while the Eastern Cape and Western Cape only charge R200 . The following are the standard required documents or registration which you must have before you can obtain the NCCA Registration:

  1. Cleaning Company Registration Certificate (CK1 or 14.3)
  2. ID Copy(s) or Passport Copy(s) (only for non-South Africans)
  3. Letter of Good Standing from COID
  4. Provident Fund Registration (NBC Fund)
  5. UIF Registration Documents
  6. Public Liability Cover for R1 million or more
  7. Tax Clearance Certificate

Upon Registration, you would be issued with a membership confirmation letter. If you have cleaners or employees, you would need to request an audit from the NCCA . Once the audit has been conducted and your documents have been inspected, only then are you issued with a membership certificate. Note that even with the membership confirmation letter, you can still apply for cleaning teners and contracts without any problem

NCCA Fees

You would be required to incure an Administrative fee and pay an annual fee directly to the NCCA in your pursuit of obtaining an NCCA Membership
